About Bamburgh

Bamburgh is a picturesque village perched off the coast of Northumberland. Golden sand and rolling waves make Bamburgh Beach one of the best in England. Enjoy a stroll along the beach, stopping to peer into colourful tidepools. It’s one of the top surf beaches in the country, with boards available to rent from local outfitters. You can also sign up for lessons.

Mighty Bamburgh Castle towers over the town and recalls the reign of Henry II. The imposing Norman stronghold sits atop a basalt outcrop and has survived countless wars and sieges over the centuries. Guided tours take you behind the scenes of the castle and into rooms filled with antiques, artwork and armour. Fans of Downton Abbey and Harry Potter may recognise Bamburgh Castle from the silver screen.

From cosy cafes to high-end seafood restaurants, there are some great places to eat in Bamburgh’s lively village centre. There’s also an award-winning pub and a handful of atmospheric tea rooms.
