It's easy to spend hours exploring Lichfield's atmospheric Old Town. As you stroll down its cobblestone streets you'll be walking in the footsteps of British greats like Samuel Johnson and Erasmus Darwin. The Old Town is brimming with cosy cafes, colourful sweet shops and traditional country pubs.

Topped by three soaring towers, Lichfield Cathedral is an iconic British landmark. Construction started in the 1200s and took over 150 years to complete. Inside you'll feel humbled by the cavernous vaulted nave and enormous octagonal Chapter House. The cathedral is decorated with over 100 statues of saints, bishops and former kings of England.

Erasmus Darwin House offers an introduction to one of Lichfield's most famous sons. In addition to being the grandfather of Charles Darwin, he was also a core member of the exclusive Lunar Society. You can browse his home to see original poetry and medical notebooks.
