Things to do in Yeonhui-dong

Hike up the 300-metre-high Ansan Mountain and unlock sweeping views over Seoul. Allow around three hours to complete the summit hike. Pack picnic supplies and enjoy lunch at the summit before heading back down. An easier, family-friendly trail loops around the base of the mountain and takes you through sun-dappled woodland.

Stroll around the Yonsei University campus and get a feel for student life in Seoul. Founded in 1885, it’s one of the most prestigious universities in South Korea and features handsome, Gothic-style buildings covered with climbing ivy. Walk along paths lined with leafy ginkgo trees and relax in the beautifully landscaped grounds.

Yeonhui-dong borders Yonsei University and is a hub for local students. The neighbourhood is packed with trendy cafes where you can enjoy coffee made with beans imported from Costa Rica, Guatemala and Brazil. Ice-cold banana milk is a South Korean favourite and a great way to beat the heat. Order elevated versions from cafes or pick up a bottle from a corner shop.

From plant-filled vegan restaurants to hole-in-the wall noodle houses, Yeonhui-dong is home to some of the city’s most interesting eateries. Some put a modern spin on South Korean street foods like “tteokbokki” chewy rice cakes served in a spicy broth, “eomuk tang” fishcakes and “bindaetteok” mung bean pancakes.
