At City Museum, get a glimpse of ancient mosaics, coins, jewels and tobacco tins, with exhibits covering the Iron Age to the present.

When you’ve worked up an appetite, dine at The Black Rat, a Michelin-starred restaurant on Chesil Street serving charred octopus, black pudding and lamb specialties. Enjoy local Andwells ale and share-platters at River Cottage Canteen, housed inside a former Georgian mill on the riverbank.

Drive about 30 kilometres to the Jane Austen’s House Museum, where the renowned author lived until 1817. Memorabilia includes the table where she wrote famous novels, such as “Mansfield Park” and “Pride and Prejudice”, as well as first editions of her books and a handkerchief embroidered by Austen.
