About Kea

Surrounded by rugged cliffs and sandy beaches, Kea is one of the most beautiful islands in the Cyclades archipelago. Loulis, the island’s lively capital, is a great base for exploring Kea. You’ll love getting lost in the winding alleys and strolling around cobbled squares. Many of the historic buildings have been reimagined as artisan stores selling paintings, jewellery and handicrafts.

Kea will tantalise your taste buds with delicious local cuisine. Save your appetite for fresh Greek salads drizzled with local olive oil, lamb cooked in preserved lemon and “moussaka” layered with eggplant and beef. Wash down your meal with a glass of ouzo at a rustic tavern.

Kea spoils you with postcard-perfect beaches around every corner. Gialiskari is one of the most popular with its golden sand and crystalline water. When you’ve had your fix of sunshine, enjoy a refreshing dip in the Aegean Sea. Otzias is sheltered and family-friendly, while Korissia is peppered with colourful umbrellas and deck chairs.

Hiking to the Lion of Kea rewards you with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. The ancient stone carving is eight metres long and dates back to the 6th century BC. Handwritten wooden signs mark the trail to the Lion of Kea, which takes around 15 minutes at a leisurely pace.

Getting around Kea

Rental cars offer the freedom to explore Kea at your own pace. Taxis are a quick and easy way to get around the island or you can also ride local buses. Ferries run between Lavrion Port in Athens and Kea in around one hour. Athens International Airport on the Greek mainland is the closest major airport.
