Where to stay in Trang

About Trang

Encompassing spectacular limestone cliffs and beautiful beaches, Trang Province overlooks the Strait of Malacca on the Malay Peninsula. Its name derives from the Malay word for “light” or “dawn” and in the late 19th century, it became one of the first places in Thailand where rubber was planted.

Things to do

Whether you want to experience the bustling town of Trang or escape to Hat Chao Mai National Park, Trang Province is a little-known gem in Southern Thailand.

Explore Hat Chao Mai National Park. Boasting picture-perfect beaches and idyllic offshore islands, Hat Chao Mai National Park overlooks the sparkling Andaman Sea. It has been designated as a Ramsar site and is home to Meng Rock, a mountain shaped like a human sleeping. Marvel at the stalactites adorning Chao Mai Cave and marvel at the prehistoric paintings of Kao Bae Na.

Relax on Pak Meng Beach. One of Trang Province’s most popular beaches is Hat Pak Meng, a crescent-shaped stretch of sand that forms part of Hat Chao Mai National Park. Spend the day swimming and sunbathing before feasting at one of the beachfront restaurants. Hat Pak Meng is particularly photogenic at sunset and is the launching point for island-hopping tours.

Scuba dive around Ko Chueak. Surrounded by colourful corals, Ko Chueak lies just off the coast of Trang Province between the islands of Ko Muk and Ko Ngai. The narrow channel that separates its two small peaks is a popular setting for snorkelling and scuba diving, with a variety of tropical species to discover.

Go rock climbing on Ko Lao Liang. In the south of Trang Province is Ko Lao Liang, a secluded island fringed by vertical limestone cliffs that are renowned for their rock climbing routes. In addition to scaling its rocky heights, the island features an impressive bouldering cave and offers excellent kayaking.

Getting around

Trang Airport is the main aviation gateway to Trang Province and has regular flights to Bangkok. Around two hours away is Hat Yai International Airport, which has flights to destinations across Asia. Buses and songthaews are the main means of getting around Trang Province.
