We booked the Love Suite Love package, which included a bottle of Prosecco and cupcakes in our room upon arrival. The decor throughout the hotel is excellent and the football memorabilia is very interesting. The car park was easy to find and access and we had no difficulty finding a space on a Monday afternoon. We tried to check in at around five past three, but were told our room was not ready. Reception showed us through to the bar for free drinks, but it then took a further 40 minutes before our room was ready. This was a bit annoying as it reduced the time we had to explore the city. We were a bit concerned about the level of noise in the hotel on arrival, as it sounded like there were extensive works taking place on one of the upper floors. Housekeeping were still turning round the rooms on our floor and excessive noise from the corridors could be heard clearly within our room. Having said that, I was only woken once during the night and otherwise slept well. I would be a bit apprehensive about staying on a Friday/Saturday night, as the hotel is quite heavily marketed at stag dos and hen parties, so the noise from the corridors would be a problem. Dinner in the Bastion was outstanding, as was the service. I had the duck spring roll, followed by ox cheek and the Scotch egg and sirloin steak. The Jacuzzi bath and shower were perfect and the beds (plural!) were very comfortable. My only gripe about the room (404), would be that there is nowhere near to the kettle to plug it in, so we ended up placing it on the floor! All things considered, our stay at The Shankly was excellent and I will be recommending the hotel to others. We will be interested to stay again, to see what the noise levels are like on the weekend.
