Hugging the Costa Blanca, the Province of Alicante is one of the most populated parts of Valencia. It was originally inhabited by the Iberians before trade colonies were established by the Phoenicians and Greeks. After being ruled by the Romans and the Visigoths, the region was taken by the Moors before being reconquered by James II of Aragon.

Whether you want to explore the medieval streets of Alicante or hit the nightclubs of Benidorm, the Province of Alicante offers something for everyone.
Sightsee in Alicante. Centred around a colourful old town, Alicante is a bustling port city and the capital of its namesake province. It’s watched over by one of Spain’s largest medieval fortresses, the Castillo de Santa Barbara, which can be reached by elevator from the Barrio de la Santa Cruz. Explore the Courtyard of Arms and the Queen’s Bastion before soaking up the sweeping views across the Mediterranean Sea.
Live it up in Benidorm. Once just a tiny fishing village, Benidorm is now a legendary resort famed for its nightlife. You can spend your days on the palm-lined sands of Levante Beach, visit the ancient civilisation-inspired theme park of Terra Mítica or brave the thrilling water slides of Aqualandia. For some of the best views in Benidorm, head to the Balcón del Mediterraneo.
Relax on Playa de San Juan. Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Province of Alicante, Playa de San Juan stretches for around seven kilometres along the Costa Blanca. It provides a setting for swimming and a variety of water sports while it’s also backed by an enticing choice of restaurants and casual beach bars.
Getting around Alicante
Alicante–Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is the main aviation gateway to the Province of Alicante and has flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Trains connect from Barcelona and Madrid to the Alicante railway station, as well as travelling to towns along the Costa Blanca. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting around the province.
