You can’t visit Agra without witnessing the 17th-century Taj Mahal with its towering minarets, symmetrical landscaped gardens and ivory marble facade. It houses the tomb of Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan’s, favourite wife and exudes unbridled opulence, from the marble flower carvings to finial floor tiling. Agra Fort is another fascinating Heritage-listed Mughal site with red sandstone structures and historical monuments.

You’ll find numerous mosques around the city, such as Jama Mosque, built in the 1570s, and the 17th-century Moti Masjid, also known as “Pearl Mosque” for its pristine white exterior. If you’re interested in Mughal royalty, visit some of the tombs around Agra, including the Tomb of Mariam-uz-Zamani, 17th-century Akbar's tomb or the marble-white Tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah.

Get your fix of local culture at Kalakriti, a grand performance venue that hosts art exhibits and live shows about the Taj Mahal. For a unique shopping experience, venture into the Sadar Bazaar, a central marketplace with hundreds of local stallholders selling handicrafts, leather goods, marble, shows and food.

Seek out some reprieve at the riverfront Mehtab Bagh, former Mughal-era gardens that have been restored into a tranquil parkland with wide grassy lawns, shady trees and famous Taj Mahal views. Agra is serviced by Agra Airport and multiple railway stations dotted around the city. Buses and taxis provide transport around the city, along with the more traditional autorickshaws.
