About Beykoz

Beykoz is a picturesque district that borders the Black Sea and Bosphorus Strait. A unique blend of history, culture and natural beauty makes Beykoz a great base to explore Greater Istanbul. Visit an ancient Anatolian fortress, walk through pristine forests and savour authentic Turkish cuisine.

Things to do in Beykoz

Explore Anadolu Hisari, an ancient Anatolian fortress set on the Bosphorus Strait. The Ottoman-era stronghold dates back to the 14th century and stands guard over the narrowest point of the strait. Walk around the ruins and enjoy spectacular views from the well-preserved towers.

Experience the splendour of the Ottoman Empire at Küçüksu Kasri. The lavish hunting lodge was built in the 1800s by a Turkish sultan and combines traditional Ottoman architecture with Rococo influences. Tours take you behind the scenes of the mansion and into rooms filled with antiques, tapestries and other treasures.

Beykoz is one of the best places in Istanbul to try “balik ekmek” fish sandwiches. A local specialty, the meal features white bread stuffed with grilled white fish, raw onions and lettuce. The best spots are hidden gems and feature wooden tables and chairs, simple decor and friendly service.

Escape the crowds in Polonezköy Nature Park. Set on the outskirts of Istanbul, the park protects a pocket of oak, pine and beech forests. Walk along scenic trails and spot birdlife like robins, wrens and sparrowhawks. Within the park is a quaint village with a proud Polish heritage. Dine at local restaurants and enjoy specialties like “pierogi” dumplings and “placki ziemniaczane” potato pancakes.

The Bosphorus Strait is best explored by boat, and Beykoz is the perfect launchpad. Scenic cruises sail along the famous waterway and past grand palaces and rolling green hillsides. The best itineraries include a delicious Turkish lunch served on the upper deck.

Getting around Beykoz

Navigating Beykoz is straightforward, with the option to walk or use public transportation. Istanbul city centre is a 45-minute drive away or 1.5 hours by bus. Ferries sail along the Bosphorus Strait and connect the coastal areas of Beykoz with other parts of Greater Istanbul. Istanbul Airport is a 40-minute drive away.
