About Campo Grande

Overlooking the gorgeous Bay of All Saints, Campo Grande is one of Salvador’s most beautiful public spaces. Over the years this historic square has served as a dynamic cultural centre, hosting everything from public demonstrations and speeches to carnivals and markets.

Take a stroll through the ornamental gardens filled with impressive sculptures, old trees and tropical flowers. At the very centre of the park, admire the Dois de Julho, a grand monument dedicated to the War of Independence.

Watch the Bahia Symphony Orchestra perform at Castro Alves Theatre. Nearby, treat yourself to authentic Spanish tapas, like crispy potatoes at Cervantes Restaurant and Taperia.

History enthusiasts can explore Salvador’s rich past at the elaborate Palace of Acclamation. An excellent example of early-20th-century architecture, the palace features impressive murals, ornate glass windows and elegant furniture.

Getting there

Campo Grande is a pleasant 25 minutes' walk from the Historic Centre of Salvador along Sete de Setembro Avenue or a 20-minute walk from the Bahia Marina Pier. Campo Grande is also accessible by bus with regular services between Compo Grand Bus Station and the Historic Centre.
