One of three resorts in the Monterosa Ski area, Champoluc is a picturesque mountain village near Italy’s border with Switzerland. The region was inhabited by the Walser people during their 12th and 13th-century migrations and attracts hikers, skiers and mountaineers wanting to explore the Monte Rosa Massif.
If you’re visiting in the winter months, you can take advantage of the downhill slopes that are easily accessible by gondola from Champoluc’s centre. In addition to tree-lined runs, there’s also open bowl skiing backed by the spectacular peaks of the Italian Alps.
When the snow melts, you can explore the Monte Rosa Massif along one of many hiking trails that take in lush pastures, dense forests and charming mountain villages. With bicycles permitted on the lifts, mountain bikers can experience the thrill of rapid descents. If you’re travelling with kids, they’ll love the tree-top ropes course of the Champoluc Adventure Park.
Getting there
Champoluc is just over an hour’s drive from Aosta and 1.5 hours from Turin. Milan Malpensa Airport is two hours away and has flights to destinations across the globe. Regular buses connect to Champoluc and the village is small enough to explore on foot.
