About Claremont

As one of Perth’s prestigious western suburbs, Claremont sits on the north bank of the Swan River. For the best luxury shopping the city has to offer, the Claremont Quarter complex features boutiques from international fashion houses and homegrown Australian labels alike. At certain times of the year, the Claremont Showground lights up with events like the IGA Perth Royal Show.

By day, Claremont is bustling with well-heeled shoppers and students attending the multiple private schools in the area. Given its proximity to the University of Western Australia, Claremont is a favourite with students in search of a caffeine fix. By night, students flock to the notorious student bars and clubs that dot the district.

Claremont has its own train station, which makes it easily accessible from Perth CBD. It’s also serviced by several bus routes. Once in the Claremont, the best way to explore the shops, colonial buildings and foreshore is by foot.

Thanks to its location on the Swan River, Claremont played a key role in the development of the city’s founding colony. Today, its historical past is echoed in its gorgeous colonial architecture that dates back to the 1860s. While today Claremont’s riverside location makes it home to some of the most coveted real estate in Perth, it wasn’t always so prestigious. In 1830 it was a wetland known as Butler's Swamp, with development kicking off when the government allotted riverfront land to a handful of pensioner guards and their families.
