About Lake Louise

Set on the Bow River, Lake Louise Town is an alpine hamlet with the beautiful Lake Louise on one side and the enthralling ski and snowboarding trails of Lake Louise Ski Resort on the other. Lake Louise Town is a slice of natural paradise in Banff National Park with hiking trails and grizzly bears, but still boasts modern entertainment within its open-air shopping mall and tea houses.

Things to do in Lake Louise

Don’t miss seeing the one-of-a-kind Lake Louise, which is world-renowned for its crystal-blue water and encircling snow-capped mountains. The 80-hectare lake is a popular spot for kayaking and canoeing during summer, while ice fishing and ice skating take centre stage in winter. You’ll find a variety of hiking trails around the lake, including trails to Saddleback Pass, Fairview Mountain and Devils Thumb.

Are you visiting during winter? Head to the Lake Louise Ski Resort for thrilling snowboarding and skiing down trails for beginner, intermediate and experienced skill levels. Along with 145 marked skiing and snowboarding runs, the resort offers dog sledding, ice skating and cross-country skiing. Visit during summer and ride the sightseeing gondola to spot grizzly bears and natural springs.

If you need some retail therapy, visit the open-air Samson Mall to browse its numerous snow sports, fashion and souvenir outlets. Grab a light bite to eat at the nearby Trailhead Cafe or duck into the Lake Louise Village Grill & Bar for Canadian and Asian fare paired with beer, liquor and wine.

Adventurous travellers can embark on a three-day hike through the Wapta Icefield, home to mountain huts and a variety of natural wonders. Don’t miss seeing the incredible Bow, Peyto and Vulture glaciers.
