About Maitland, FL

Maitland is a suburban city, located 16 kilometres north of downtown Orlando, Florida. This charming city is home to myriad museums, nature trails, farmer’s markets and a lovely lake. It is less than 25 minutes’ drive from the theme parks and shopping malls of Orlando and the same distance from Lake Monroe and historic Sanford.

There’s much to see in and around Maitland. Begin an exploration at Audubon Centre for Birds of Prey, an ideal day out for all the family. Visitors wishing to experience the real wildlife of Florida can get up close to Kites, Owls, Falcons, Ospreys and Bald Eagles. Set around wetlands, Maitland the ideal place to become acquainted with Maitland’s natural beauty. Appreciators of all things artistic should head to Maitland Art Centre. It’s home to fascinating, contemporary gallery exhibitions. The art centre was named the first National Historic Landmark in this area of Florida due to its ‘Mayan Revival’ fantasy architecture. Lake Lily Park is the perfect venue for a walk, jog or a waterside picnic. The waterlilies and central fountain make for great photo opportunities. There are regular LYNX bus services which operate throughout the city, and to Orlando and its International airport. Driving to Walt Disney World Theme Parks of Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Animal Kingdom takes approximately 50 minutes. Maitland is one of the oldest municipalities in Central Florida and is rich in history. It was established as Fort Maitland by the US Army in 1838. The city was part of the “Old Black Bear Trail” which ran from Canada to Florida’s west coast. It was in the 1960s when Maitland came alive, with new construction following the opening of a major highway. Following the arrival of Walt Disney World in the 1970s, commuters began to move out of Orlando and into Maitland. Today, the suburban area is a popular location for visitors to Central Florida, it offers historic ambience, a charming centre and is close to big-ticket state attractions.
