About Ohio State University

Ohio State University is one of the largest and most revered education institutions in the United States. The university’s long history can be admired at the main campus in Columbus, where the red bricks of grand 19th century buildings rise above cultivated lawns. Famous for both its arts and medical faculties, Ohio State University established itself as one of the country’s pre-eminent universities and continues to be one of the most celebrated. It’s the third-largest university in the United States.

The 15 separate colleges of Ohio State University are located at the large sprawling campus in the north of Columbus. A large park is dedicated to cancer survivors and honours the university’s role in cancer research. Visitors also come to walk around the track at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, named after the Ohio State University student who amazed the world at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Also on campus, Ohio Stadium hosts over 100,000 fans for Ohio State Buckeyes football fixtures. The university has regional network campuses for agriculture students in Lima, Mansfield, Marion, Newark and Wooster.

Ohio State University has its own airport, used by business travellers working in Ohio’s remote farming towns. A public bus provides expedited transport between John Glenn Columbus International Airport and the main university campus. Other local bus services provide connections from the campus to downtown Columbus and the city’s northeastern suburbs.

Ohio State University has produced some of the world’s greatest athletes, and its alumni have won over 100 Olympic medals. Black sprinter Jesse Owens won four golds at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, a sporting feat that has never been surpassed, and an achievement that publicly challenged Adolf Hitler’s idea of the master Aryan race.
