About Zefat

Set high in Northern Israel, Safed is perched atop a mountain with sweeping views over the Upper Galilee. Safed has been a haven for Kabbalah spirituality since the 16th century and is also a hotspot for artists seeking intimate galleries and in-depth workshops.

In the Synagogue Quarter you'll find prayer houses that date back to the 16th century. Named in honour of a beloved rabbi, Caro Synagogue is adorned with Middle Eastern arches, hanging lanterns and wooden bookshelves loaded with holy texts. Ashkenazi Ari Synagogue is another local landmark, with a fierce lion beautifully carved above the holy ark.

The Memorial Museum of Hungarian Speaking Jewry offers a glimpse at Safed's colourful history. Inside you'll find exhibits on everything from family photographs to life in the Budapest Ghetto.
