Things to do in Sélestat

Get lost in the winding cobblestone streets of the Old Town. Also called Vieux Selestat, the district is the historic heart of the town and features beautifully preserved half-timbered houses, some dating back to the Middle Ages. Admire the handsome Romanesque façade of Sainte-Foy Church and enjoy coffee and croissants on Place d'Armes, the lively main square. As you explore Vieux Selestat, you'll discover chic galleries, boutiques and bistros run by local entrepreneurs.

See ancient books, manuscripts and other literary artefacts at the Humanist Library of Selestat. Founded in the 15th century by a German scholar, the library is listed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register and home to some of the most important cultural treasures in France. While the collection is ancient, the building is modern and was designed by famous French architect, Rudy Ricciotti.
