About Strunjan

Strunjan is a laid-back resort set on the cobalt-blue Adriatic Sea. Sun worshippers arrive to bask on beautiful beaches like Salinera, fringed by white pebble sand and towering pine trees. Rent a deck chair and bask in the sunshine and swim out to the floating pontoon. Accessed by a short hiking trail, Moon Bay is another popular stretch of sand with a more secluded atmosphere.

Strunjan Nature Reserve stretches for four kilometres along the Adriatic Sea and is fringed by rugged cliffs, some more than 80 metres tall. Relax on the pristine beach and venture inland to explore the wildlife-rich marine lagoon and shimmering saltpans. The lookout commands sweeping views over the Adriatic Sea and the Gulf of Trieste. On a clear day, the views stretch all the way to Mount Triglav.

The lush Strunjan Valley provides perfect growing conditions for grapes, citrus fruit and Mediterranean vegetables. Most restaurants champion local produce and will tempt you with dishes like persimmon salad and traditional “potica” cake made with cinnamon, egg yolks and heavy cream.

Getting there

Strunjan is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. The resort is a 15-minute drive from Koper and 1.5 hours from Ljubljana. Local buses run between Strunjan and Ljubljana in around two hours.
