Stroll along the Heritage-listed Tathra Wharf, considered the heart of the village. It’s a popular spot for whale watching and spotting fur seals and fairy penguins. Feeling adventurous? Join the snorkelers and scuba divers beneath the wharf. Explore Tathra Maritime Museum for local history and works by regional artisans, before enjoying a contemporary Australian lunch at Wharf Locavore.

Fishing from the pier is a favourite pastime, where you’re likely to spot swimmers training for the Tathra Wharf to Waves swimming routes from the wharf to Tathra Beach. You can also go cycling or try paddling on Bega River. Take an evening break for craft beer and live entertainment at the Heritage-listed Tathra Hotel, founded in the late-1800s.

Coastal parks on either side of Tathra provide rich nature-filled activities, such as bushwalking, camping, sailing, kayaking and whale watching. Just south of Tathra, experienced hikers can spend a day trekking the Kangarutha walking track in Bournda National Park.

On the north side of Tathra, Mimosa Rocks National Park harbours mysterious honeycomb sea caves and looming rock formations. You can also stop by the shop at Tathra Oysters, where they harvest Sydney rock oysters at pristine wilderness oyster farms in Nelsons Lake.
