About Žabljak, Montenegro

Gear up for outdoor adventures in Zabljak, a small town with a big attitude. It’s set at an altitude of almost 1,500 metres and is one of the highest towns in the Balkans. Summit rugged limestone mountains, raft along the Tara River and explore Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wherever you go, you’ll be amazed by the grandeur of the Dinaric Alps.

Things to do in Žabljak

Discover rugged peaks, dense pine forests and cobalt-blue lakes in Durmitor National Park. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and protects a dramatic, glacier-carved landscape. Hiking trails wind through the park and take you to gems like Black Lake. If you’re up for a challenge, set your sights on Bobotov Kuk, the tallest summit in the Durmitor range. Guided treks are the best way to summit the 1,500-metre-tall mountain.

The Tara River flows through the mountains and has formed one of the deepest canyons in Europe. Strap on a helmet for an exhilarating white-water rafting trip along the river. Get ready to bounce your way through 18 kilometres of rocky, foam-covered rapids.

Durdevica Tara Bridge spans across the canyon and is a feat of engineering. It features five enormous arches, the largest more than 100 metres wide. A handful of restaurants overlook the bridge and serve delicious Balkan food, accompanied by breathtaking views.

Hit the slopes at Ski Centre Durmitor. It’s set in Durmitor National Park and is a unique chance to ski in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a max elevation of almost 2,200 metres and a vertical drop of more than 650 metres.

Getting around Žabljak

Zabljak is compact and easy to get around on foot. The town is a two-hour drive from Podgorica. Rental cars offer the freedom to visit Zabljak and explore surrounding sights and attractions at your own pace. Podgorica Airport is a two-hour drive away.
