About Deakin University

Deakin University is a prominent public educational institution located in the city of Victoria, Australia and serves as Victoria’s fourth established university. It is one of the country’s fastest growing research universities and is situated on multiple campuses including Geelong, Warrnambool and Burwood, and Melbourne with additional learning centres located elsewhere.

The Geelong Waterfront campus boasts a professionally modern architectural appeal and is renovated to incorporate original elements of design. Exclusive facilities include laboratories, a library, occupational therapy centre and a design centre. The Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is the original campus of the university, situated in the suburb of Waurn Ponds. The location offers fitness centres encompassing a wide range of sports, computer laboratories and a multitude of student dining areas.

Shuttle buses serve as the primary form of transit around Deakin University, although walking and cycling are popular as well. There is parking on-site for personal vehicles, with carpooling regarded as a highly recommended option.

Alfred Deakin was Australia’s second prime minister and officially established the university in 1974 as a result of the Deakin University Act. The university was the first in Victoria to incorporate elements of distance education. In 1977, the first students were enrolled on the original campus at Waurn Ponds.
