Set along a picturesque stretch of sand, Diamond Beach is a small community on the edge of Cape May. It swells with holidaymakers during the summer months when travelers come to enjoy water sports, nature reserves and amusement parks.

Things to do in Diamond Beach

Climb the 199 steps up to the top of the Cape May Lighthouse to take in the views of Diamond Beach. The old oil house has been transformed into a small museum that details how the lighthouse has helped ships navigate the coastline here since 1859.

Nature lovers can explore South Cape May Meadows Nature Preserve, a hotspot for bird watching. Walking trails traverse its wetlands, meadows, dunes, and beaches and offer sightings of rare species, such as buff-breasted sandpipers, Arctic terns and black-necked stilts.

Diamond Beach is a good base for visiting Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Waterparks, which is located on the Wildwoods’ boardwalk to the north of town. This historic amusement park is set across three different piers and two waterparks, with the Grand Prix Raceway, giant Ferris wheel and a simulated surfing machine among its most popular attractions.

Fancy a round of golf at one of New Jersey’s most beautiful courses? Head to the Cape May National Golf Club, which overlooks a 20-hectare private bird sanctuary. It has been nicknamed “The Natural” for its nature-inspired aesthetic design, which reflects the surroundings of Cape May.
