About Fuxing District

Sprawling south of Taoyuan City, Fuxing District is a mountainous region predominantly inhabited by the indigenous Atayal people. It’s home to spectacular waterfalls and scenic walking trails within its National Forest Recreation Areas and is traversed by the dramatic Northern Cross-Island Highway.

Things to do in Fuxing District

In the north of Fuxing District is the Dongyanshan National Forest Recreation Area, which encompasses several rugged mountains blanketed in fir trees. Follow one of the picturesque trails dotted with information boards detailing the local ecology and admire the Manyueyuan Waterfall, a scenic cascade tumbling down the upper reaches of the Dabao River.

Another waterfall not to miss in Fuxing District is the Xiaowulai Waterfall, which is best viewed from the spectacular Xiaowulai Skywalk. Suspended high in the air, this strikingly designed walkway projects 11 metres above the waterfall and features a glass bottom for unobstructed views across the gorge below. A short trail leads from the Xiaowulai Skywalk across the Heping Suspension Bridge to a lookout that offers a different perspective of the waterfall.

Centred around an artificial lake, the Mingchi National Forest Recreation Area is a peaceful destination at the highest point of the Northern Cross-Island Highway. It’s surrounded by gardens that have been laid out according to traditional Chinese principles, including a memorial garden dedicated to Sun Yat-sen. Be sure to follow the walking trail that hugs the lake, which is framed by fog-shrouded mountains.

Getting around Fuxing District

Fuxing District is just under two hours’ drive from New Taipei City and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Buses travel throughout the district, although having your own vehicle gives you greater freedom to explore.
