About Jabalpur

Set high on a rocky hilltop, Jabalpur is known for its ancient forts and serene Jain temples, along with colourful bazaars, a history museum and traditional Madhya Pradesh cuisine. Venture out of the city to find India's famous "Jungle Book" wildlife reserves, home to tigers and leopards.

Things to do in Jabalpur

Jabalpur is a launching pad for Bandhavgarh, Pench and Kanha, three of India's most famous tiger parks. The latter served as inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book". Safaris offer a unique chance to view majestic Bengal tigers in their natural habitat. You could also spot illusive Indian leopards, sloth bears and birds of prey.

Set on the outskirts of the city, Madan Mahal Fort has been guarding Jabalpur since 1116. Wander around the stronghold and climb up onto the ramparts for sweeping views over the city's winding alleyways and bustling bazaars.

At several hundred years old, the Pisanhari Ki Madiya Jain temple offers a window into Jabalpur's storied past. Access is via a fleet of 150 steps, which lead up to the gleaming white temple. You can also visit Hanumantal Bada Jain Mandir, a second Jain temple set on the banks of a shimmering lake.

Discover local history at the Rani Durgavati Museum, which is filled with beautifully carved sculptures discovered in local archaeological sites that date back to the 10th century. The gallery also showcases gleaming copper inscriptions, antiques coins and photographs.
