Lake Placid is an 8.8-square-kilometre lake in the Adirondack Mountains, surrounded by registered wilderness areas and quaint lakeside towns. The lake is renowned for its bounty of trout and features pristine water quality, thanks to the springs from mountain streams.
The calm water at Lake Placid is ideal for outdoor recreation, from kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding to boating and fishing. You can also explore the sprawling McKenzie Mountain Wilderness, which overlooks the lake and offers kilometres of scenic hiking trails with views of Lake Placid.
Don’t forget to check out the town of Lake Placid, located at the southern end of the lake. Getting there
Lake Placid is located in the northern area of New York, about 2.5 hours’ drive from Albany and 3.5 hours from Syracuse. You can also drive there in just under five hours from New York City, where you can fly into John F. Kennedy International Airport.
