About National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences

National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences is in the Yanchao District of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. The University specialises in all forms of state of the art engineering, management and commerce fields and serves more than 13,000 students and over 100,000 alumni. National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences is the leading technological University in southern Taiwan and is attended by students from all over the world.

The University is within walking distance to many local attractions, one of the most appealing to visit may be National Science and Technology Museum, Kaohsiung. The exhibition hall offers insight into Air Navigation and Aerospace, an Industrial History of Taiwan and has a Children’s Science Centre. Films are shown in the theatre auditorium, and visitors can enjoy browsing the gift shop. Just a couple of kilometres from the University is one of the most popular night markets in Kaohsiung, the Ruifeng Night Market. The market hosts more than a thousand stalls, mainly small street food vendors and stores selling fashion apparel. The area is popular with tourists and students seeking reasonably priced food after a hard day of study. Try the famous Wanguo Steak Teppanyaki and wash it down with a traditional Almond Tea with pearls. No visit to Kaohsiung City would be complete without a visit to Dragon Tiger Towers. The twin pagodas are located at picturesque Lotus Lake and the Tiger Tower contains artwork of the 12 Magi and Confucius. Each tower has double spiral staircases where visitors can ascend and admire the lake from one of the viewing platforms. One of the top landmarks of Taiwan is also nearby. Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum is home to towering Buddha statues, eight pagodas and palaces and are one of the most popular attractions in the city.

National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences is easy to reach by road, as it is close to the main road network connecting the city with outlying areas. Buses and MRT metro lines transport visitors from downtown or Kaohsiung International Airport. The city’s International airport is around 20 minutes south of the centre.

The University was established in 1963 when the Taiwanese Government assigned funds to establish a learning facility in the city. In autumn of the same year, graduates were admitted into the University to study Civil and Chemical Engineering. In the early 1990s, the facility expanded its programme of Engineering studies to incorporate Business, International Trade, and Tourism and a second campus was constructed. In the year 2000, the campus was renamed National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences, and it has since expanded even further, adding more programmes to its curriculum.
