About Torrox

Torrox is a laid-back town on the Costa del Sol, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra de Almijara mountains. Enjoy one of the best climates in Europe, with sunshine and warm temperatures year-round. Relax on the Blue Flag beaches, walk around the historic town centre and enjoy delicious food and wine from the Andalusia region.

Things to do in Torrox

Torrox boasts multiple Blue Flag beaches, including El Morche. The beach stretches for more than a kilometre and is popular with families. Ferrara Beach has an upbeat vibe and features a breezy promenade lined with cafes and bars. Bask on the golden sand and sip sangria at a beachfront cafe café.

Faro Torrox towers over the remains of a Roman archaeological site. The lighthouse is a local landmark and was built in the 1800s. Wander around the grounds and enjoy spectacular views over the Mediterranean or step inside the on-site museum to see Roman artefacts found at the site.

Torrox is filled with architecture that reflects the town’s rich cultural heritage. Church Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación dates back to the 16th century and features a beautiful wooden ceiling and pyramid-shaped spire. Other historic gems include the 18th-century Hospital of San José and a sugar factory built in the 1900s.

Torrox is a gastronome’s delight, with local specialities including “espetos” grilled sardines, “migas cortijeras” breadcrumbs topped with smoked bacon and “papas a lo pobre” potatoes fried in olive oil. Set off the flavours with a glass of local wine. Torrox is set on the Route of Sun and Wine, a 55-kilometre-long road surrounded by rolling vineyards.

Getting around Torrox

Torrox is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. The closest beaches are a 10-minute drive from the town centre. The town is a 40-minute drive from Málaga and three hours from Seville. Local buses run between Málaga and Torrox in around two hours. Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is a one-hour drive away.
