About Bergedorf

Curslack is an outlying neighbourhood of Hamburg and has existed since the 12th century. While it was once a village in its own right, these days it’s a relatively unpopulated farming area full of fields. If you’re looking for a glimpse of Germany’s more rural side, look no further than Curslack.

Interested in the area’s history? Visit the historic St. Johannis Curslack church. This Evangelical church was built in the early-17th century and is the perfect example of traditional German architecture.

To learn even more about the Bergedorf district, which encompasses Curslack, head to the Museum für Bergedorf und die Vierlande. This museum is housed in the Bergedorfer Schloss, Hamburg’s only remaining castle. The permanent exhibition covers the last 850 years of the region’s history.

The final must-see museum in the area is the Freilichtmuseum Rieck Haus. This open-air museum focuses on the everyday life of past residents in this marshland farming area. Each June, Rieck Haus is home to a strawberry festival.

Getting around Bergedorf

From Hamburg, it takes less than 30 minutes to reach Curslack by car. Once you’re there, jump out and stroll the various laneways, which make exploring this charming area on foot quite easy.
