Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum has a magnificent collection of art, including masterpieces by Rembrandt, Rubens and Holbein. It's one of the oldest museums in Europe and boasts more than 1,400 paintings, as well as 100,000 prints, hundreds of sculptures and one of the largest collections of Limoges porcelain outside of France.
There's a special focus on Dutch Old Masters, as well as intricate woodcut prints by Dürer and the Flemish Baroque portraits by Van Dyck. There's also a single piece by beloved Dutch Baroque Period painter Johannes Vermeer. Some of the oldest prints date back to the Middle Ages.
Audio-visual guides are available to rent on portable tablets and are a fantastic way to learn more about the incredible pieces of art. Visit the museum shop to browse books, prints, homewares and jewellery inspired by European art.
Getting there
Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum is located in Braunschweig’s city centre, a 25-minute walk from Braunschweig Railway Station and five minutes from the Braunschweig Museumstrasse tram stop. Parking is available at nearby lots and local buses stop nearby. Braunschweig Wolfsburg Airport is a 15-minute drive away.
