About Kufstein

Kufstein is a historic town set on the banks of the Inn River and surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Nicknamed the “Pearl of Tyrol”, it will charm you with its narrow alleys lined with gingerbread-style houses. The rugged Kaiser Mountains provide an ideal backdrop for outdoor adventures.

Kufstein is criss-crossed with narrow streets and alleys. Römerhofgasse is one of the prettiest and is lined with traditional Tyrolean houses. Brightly-painted window shutters, wrought iron lanterns and balconies overflowing with flowers give the street a fairy-tale feel. The buildings house a mix of cafes, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops.

Kufstein Fortress towers over the town and commands strategic views over the Alps. Ride the funicular up to the fortress or work up a sweat on the walking trail. At the top, you can explore the centuries-old stronghold and visit the small but engaging museum. Every day at noon the enormous Heroes’ Organ is played to honour fallen soldiers. It’s one of the largest open-air organs in the world and the enchanting notes echo across the valley.

Escape the crowds and spend the day at Hechtsee Lake. It’s set at the foot of Thierberg Mountain and features a grassy foreshore where you can sunbathe and enjoy a picnic. Stretch your legs on lakeside trails and challenge your friends to a game of beach volleyball. The Niederndorf woodland swimming pool is another great place to cool off in the summer. It’s surrounded by tall trees and promises family fun in a beautiful natural setting.
