Where to stay in Premantura

About Premantura

The tiny village of Premantura is perched on the southernmost tip of the Istrian Peninsula and surrounded by sandy beaches and jewel-toned bays. Whether you want to relax on the beach, make a splash with water sports or dive into the rich history, heritage and culture of the region, Premantura is a fantastic base.

Things to do in Premantura

Premantura is a launchpad to Cape Kamenjak, where you can discover more than 30 kilometres of sandy beaches, rocky coves and postcard-perfect bays. The beaches are regularly voted some of the best in the Mediterranean, with crystalline water perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Rent a kayak and explore the coastline from the water. Look out for Mediterranean monk seals basking on the rocks.

Skoljic Beach is one of the most popular stretches of sand, with sun loungers, umbrellas and water sports on offer. On the western side of the cape, Radovica Beach is fringed by silver pebbles and soaring cliffs. Laid-back Veliki Portić Beach is set on a sheltered cove and shaded by lush oak and pine forests.

Like the rest of the Istrian Peninsula, Premantura has a distinct Italian flavour, and you’ll see plenty of pizzerias in the town centre. Truffles are a local specialty and best enjoyed in a creamy sauce served with handmade “fuzi” pasta. Seafood is a staple, with many restaurants serving mussels and oysters cooked in olive oil, garlic and white wine.

Day trip north to visit the impressive Roman Amphitheatre in Pula. The enormous structure dates back to the 1st century and towers over the harbour. It once hosted gladiator tournaments, though today it’s a venue for concerts, festivals and film screenings.

Getting there

Premantura is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. The town is located on the southern end of the Istrian Peninsula, a 15-minute drive from Pula and 1.5 hours from Rijeka. Rental cars offer the freedom to beach hop and explore the Istrian Peninsula at your own pace. Franjo Tuđman Airport Zagreb is a three-hour drive away.
