Nestled on New York’s Hudson River, West Point played an important role in the American Revolution as one of the most important strategic positions for General George Washington. It’s currently the oldest continuously occupied military post in the United States and boasts a rich Revolutionary War history.

You can discover more about its war history at the Battle Monument, a large Tuscan column monument on Trophy Point, before exploring the preserved buildings and weapons at Fort Putnam, an important military garrison during the Revolutionary War. Afterwards, head to Redoubt Four, a supporting defensive position constructed in the 18th century.

West Point overlooks Constitution Island, which is home to numerous Revolutionary War relics, including Marine Battery, Fort Constitution and Hill Cliff Battery. Nature lovers will enjoy kayaking through the Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary, while the nearby Boscobel House and Gardens offers hiking trails and a prestigious 1800s estate with period furnishings.

West Point is just over one hour’s drive from New York City, where you can fly into John F. Kennedy International Airport and rent a car. You can also drive there in 30 minutes from New York Stewart International Airport.
